Cheshire East Council has given an update on the Royal Arcade development which is being built in Crewe.

Crewe bus station was demolished in June last year, making way for the foundations of a new bus station and multi-storey car park to be built, which is part of the ongoing Royal Arcade redevelopment.

Crewe town centre's new bus station and multi-storey car park will be completed at the end of 2023 (Ryan Parker).

And now, the council has confirmed that those foundations have been put in place.

They also confirmed that the project is on track to be opened as planned, by the end of the year.

Councillor Nick Mannion, chair of Cheshire East Council's economy and growth committee, said: "Visiting the site earlier this week, it has been great to see first-hand the progress that has been made to deliver these two new facilities – facilities that are an important part of the town's ongoing regeneration and are key to us being able to move ahead with several other schemes that will benefit the town, its communities, and the wider borough.

"I would like to reiterate my thanks to the public and local businesses for their patience while work on this project is carried out, and we continue to work closely with our contractors and colleagues to ensure that information is available on site and that staff are available should people need support while the temporary bus arrangements are in place."

The car park and bus station are the first phase in the redevelopment of the Royal Arcade.

A new shopping centre alongside leisure and retail units are also planned in the £43m scheme which will begin once the first phase has been completed.

The multi-storey car park will have 388 spaces and 20 electric vehicle charging points.

Currently, eight temporary bus stands are in place until the bus station is complete.
