Macclesfield: Cannabis dealers who chased sheep in Pott Shrigley arrested

By Alex Greensmith 13th Jul 2021

Two people who chased sheep and intended to sell marijuana near Macclesfield have been arrested.

The incident occurred in Pott Shrigley on Sunday, not long after the EURO 2020 final.

Cheshire Police Rural Crime Team arrested two males from the Greater Manchester area for possession of cannabis with intent to supply in our area.

One of them - the driver - for providing a positive drugs wipe.

The pair were left sheepish when they almost collided into the Cheshire Constabulary cop car.

"This came about after a farmer reported people in his field running after his livestock," said Sgt Simpson.

"As we arrived the car came down the single track road and came face to face with us. Bad timing for them, but not as bad as their decision making.

"They're off to custody and their car has been seized for being used in crime.

"A great big thank you to the officers from Macclesfield Police who came to assist us with the searches.

"It's really important that we support our remote rural communities as even this suspicious incident has led to a couple of arrests and our rural roads being safer."

There were other vehicles at the location, thought to be associated with the dealers, but they dispersed very quickly too. It is believed they were also not from Macclesfield, and were from the wider Manchester area.

It is unknown how far over the legal limit the man behind the wheel was were - but certainly found humour in chasing a farmer's livelihood.

The legal limit of tetrahydrocannabinol (or THC, the part that gets you high) allowed in your bloodstream when you get behind the wheel is 2mg (micrograms).

However, smoking an 'average' sized joint is likely to leave you with 120mg in your system. Effectively, it's possible to have one single puff of cannabis and be over the legal driving limit.

The cannabis couple in custody have not been named.

No sheep have thought to have been physically harmed, however, they may have been emotionally scarred.

Macclesfield Nub News have contacted Cheshire Constabulary for further comment.
