A Macclesfield cyclist has produced a video of him touring the town in just 15 minutes to show it is a good way to get around and encourage infrastructure investment.

Richard Newstead set up the 'Active Travel Macclesfield' YouTube channel three weeks ago to highlight the issues faced by local cyclists and the potential there is to share the roads.

Mr Newstead told Macclesfield Nub News: "The purpose of the video is twofold. Firstly to show people that cycling across Macclesfield generally takes less than 15 minutes and secondly, to challenge councillors to be braver when the next tranche of active travel proposals are put to public consultation."

In the narrated video, he starts out cycling east to west, where he gets from the Broken Cross roundabout and makes it as far as Buxton Road and out of the town within 15 minutes.

For the south to north route, Mr Newstead begins on Moss Lane and ends up past Tytherington within the time.

He describes the current cycling infrastructure as "woefully inadequate" and called on councillors to make "difficult decisions" on how to ensure roads can be shared.
