A Tytherington company will write you a FREE living will this July.

A living will, which is legally binding, speaks for you when you may not be able to. e.g. if you are unconscious, or not able to communicate due to other health conditions.

You may not be able to make a decision as to what happens to you, should you be injured and unable to consent to medical procedures. But a living will secures you can received what you do, or do not, wish for.

Living wills, also known as advanced decisions or advanced directives, provide peace of mind and also absolves loved ones from making difficult decisions on things like 'do not resuscitate' for you.

Moneybox Wills and Trusts, based in the Tytherington Business Park, will be giving anyone that books a FREE living will in July.

Joe Etherington, at Moneybox Wills and Trusts came up with the idea, after a recent personal experience of a family member being ill without a living will.

As well as the - temporarily free - living wills, you can also pay to get a last will and testament sorted for after you are gone.

Following a severe cardiac arrest, Joe's father was taken to hospital where he was put on life support.

However, as there was no legal documentation in place, such as a living will, neither the medical professionals nor his family were able to make sure his wishes were honoured.

This caused a prolonged and deeply upsetting time for all involved.

"The living will comes into effect while you are alive, and is a declaration of your refusal of treatments such as artificial feeding or ventilation in certain circumstances," said Joe.

"While a living will is no substitute for lasting powers of attorney, it is certainly better than nothing" said Joe.

"We are going to offer them out, for all of July, free of charge."

"The reason for that is to raise awareness and open up the conversations about what people would want to happen in these scenarios."

A living will would normally cost £99 plus VAT, but Moneybox Wills and Trusts is offering free wills for all of July.

To take advantage of this offer, you have to attend the appointment in July.

"A living will can be done over the telephone, or in person at our office at the Tytherington Business Park," explained Joe.

Living wills have always been a valuable thing to have, in Joe's professional opinion, but it also means a lot to him personally too.

"Without going into details, if my dad had a living will, he wouldn't have been in the situation he was in for as long as he was," he revealed.

"If you don't want to put your loved ones in a position to make some of these decisions, you can do it for them with a living will, so they don't have to worry about that sort of thing. It is useful for the whole family – especially for those families who find it hard to have these conversations.

"Maybe we ought to be talking about this much more."
