'Amazing' start to life for market stall shining a light on local creatives

A new market stall is shining a spotlight on local creatives.
Makers at the Market has enjoyed a successful start to life since opening at Macclesfield Market Hall just over a month ago.
It is the brainchild of Ali Williams and Steph Harding, who have created a space to showcase the work of up to 28 artists.
Ali said: "People want things that are handmade, a little bit different and not mass produced.
"There's so much you could buy that anyone could have but it's lovely to own something unique.
"We only want things that people have made with their hands. It's really important we stick to that ethos, there's something quite spiritual about it."
On how the first few weeks have gone, she added: "It's been absolutely amazing!
"The people of Macclesfield are so brilliant, they come and they all get on their soapbox about how important it is to shop local how important it is to support each other."

Ali previously worked as a recruitment consultant and would pass through Macclesfield on her way between Manchester and London.
Around 14 years ago she moved to the town, transitioning to a career in foster care.
She added: "Steph is local. She's really proud of her Macclesfield roots and I'm proud to have been adopted by Macclesfield.
"I love it here. I love the community, all the makers and just how creative the town is now."

After adopting her son, Charlie, Ali set about finding a side hustle to bring in some money.
She purchased an embroidery kit and hasn't looked back.
"It flicked a creative switch in me I hadn't even realised I was missing," Ali said.
Ali and Steph met on the market circuit and immediately hit it off.
A few years ago they visited Congleton Market Quarter with the view of going into business.
"It wasn't quite right for us due to the hours but it got the cogs turning and helped us to realise that the idea was sound," Ali said.

Makers at the Market opened in Macclesfield at the end of July.
Inside you will find everything from paintings and mugs to crochet and jewellery.
Ali and Steph also host workshops, which they hope will encourage more people to visit the market and shop at neighbouring stalls.
Ali continued: "It feels like a dream come true!
"The indoor market is such a lovely community of people. I haven't met a single person here who I haven't thought 'oh what a character!'
"The amount of people that come through here is gorgeous and I'm looking forward to the units all being full.
"When it reaches full capacity it's going to have so much to offer."
