AstraZeneca's Macclesfield campus celebrates 100% renewable energy milestone

AstraZeneca's Macclesfield campus is celebrating a historic sustainability milestone.
For the first time ever, the site's entire heat and power needs are now met by 100 per cent renewable energy.
The pharmaceutical giants say this achievement puts Macclesfield at the forefront of sustainable businesses in the UK.
Paul Owen, Macclesfield's director of facilities and operations sustainability, said: "This milestone isn't just about greener energy; it's about showing how sustainable innovation can transform business practices while protecting the environment.
"It also contributes towards AstraZeneca's wider objective of having all sites across the globe operate on 100 per cent renewable energy by the end of 2025.
"I want to thank our incredible Macclesfield colleagues and partners who've made today's milestone a reality."

The Macclesfield campus draws on biomethane, produced in the UK using world-leading technology including carbon capture, to provide clean heat and steam.
All electricity comes from certified zero-carbon sources like wind and solar power.
Meanwhile, upgrades in efficiency – such as energy-saving water and air systems – are further reducing the site's environmental impact.
