Cheshire Company Helping Relocate Hong Kong Residents to Macc

By Alex Greensmith 16th Apr 2021

A local company is assisting Hong Kong residents moving to Macclesfield, among other Cheshire towns.

Mei Yee Chan (45) and Chris Hampson (47), from Chester, have attracted almost 600,000 views on their YouTube channel 'Chester uk Mama'.

The successful channel, which started in July 2020, led to the founding of their relocation business Seccurro - meaning Latin for help - just two months later.

Their YouTube has become a viral hit in the former British colony, and has helped their Cheshire company relocate 50 former Hong Kong families to our county.

In a recent video about Macclesfield, posted on April 10th, Mei described what made our town to the Asian city state.

"We started off the video saying a lot of people are looking into Manchester, but the pricing is expensive and spaces are tight. But Macclesfield is a really lovely alternative - it is not too far from Manchester and has really good schools", she said.

"We then explained that Macclesfield was very close to the Peak District. Which is attractive for those wishing to move to the UK for the countryside lifestyle.

"A lot of Hong Kong people are concerned about crime rate, but we mentioned that Macclesfield's is good. It is safe. We also told the viewers that transport to Manchester is great, being just 20 minutes by train.

"And of course - we also tell [the Hong Kong audience] about how it used to be the world's largest and most famous Silk producer."

Hong Kong-born former civil engineer and law graduate Mei had moved to the UK in 2016.

Shortly after, the single mother of two met software sales worker Chris in a chance encounter, as he claimed he could fix her laptop.

The couple now live together, and Chris quit his job on furlough last year to pursue their relocation services business full-time.

Whether it is a family just arriving in the UK, or one that has planned to move for months, their relocation services are offered at an instant and can cost up to thousands of pounds. Liaising with the client is done through WhatsApp.

"In some instances we've had families landing in the UK with no idea about which area they want to go, transport links, schooling," Chris added.

"We understand what their requirements are, what their budget is, and the most important factor in a location for them. It is a very tailored service we offer.

"We'll contact the council for school places to getting a furniture package for them. It really feels like you are helping.

"We'll helping them purchase or rent a property, recommend solicitors, surveyors, utility bills. Everything you can think of in terms of moving house, we can do that for those moving from Hong Kong."

"We both have a passion for helping families, and a passion for properties. And we really enjoyed it because through researching me and Chris are also exploring more of the UK," Mei added.

The Macc video has already attracted 1,500 Hong Kong viewers with British national (overseas) passports, considering a move to our town.

Seccurro's videos about Crewe have also proved a hit in the East Asian metropolitan area, attracting over 200,000 views.

Other uploads promoting Cheshire towns such as Northwich to Alsager, have received 9,600 views and 15,000 views respectively.

They also offer relocation services for Hong Kongers to larger areas in the North West, like Warrington or Liverpool.

In the future, Chris and Mei expect to expand their business into an estate agency, rather than just securing properties for families via a third party estate agent.

The UK government expects 300,000 of Hong Kong's 2.9 million residents to use their British National (Overseas) passports accept their path to citizenship.
