Community store praised for efforts in tackling waste and supporting Macclesfield residents

A community store has been praised for its efforts in tackling waste.
One Project Macclesfield has been crowned the Community Initiative of the Year at the Everybody Awards 2025.
Each day, Mill Street-based OPM welcomes around 150 visitors, offering surplus food to anyone who needs it.
They also sell pre-loved items, to help prevent them from going to landfill.

Ruth Eaton, manager of the community store, said: "Winning this award is a huge morale boost and a welcome recognition of everyone's hard work.
"A special mention has to go to One Project founder Kate Ellis, whose vision and passion sparked its creation.
"One Project has grown into a thriving initiative powered by more than 50 dedicated volunteers.
"Many give up unsociable hours to collect food and goods, ensuring the community has continued access to affordable resources."
The Everybody Awards took place at Mottram Hall on Friday, September 26.
There were also prizes for unsung hero, diversity and inclusion and sports personality of the year, among others.

One Project, which shares a unit with is open from 10am to 2pm Monday to Saturday.
