Macclesfield's oldest pub has new landlords.

Karly Goodison and Nathan Moore have taken over The Bate Hall on Chestergate, which dates back to 1525.

It represents a huge move for the pair, age 27 and 22 respectively, as they have never run their own pub before.

"We're very excited!" said Karly.

"This is our first pub and we're excited to see if we can grow the business and put our own personal touch on the place."

The Bate Hall's former landlords, Sue and Dale Edwards, have now moved to the Alyn Rosett on the outskirts of Wrexham.

Their successor Karly has been working in the industry since she was 13, with Nathan bringing five years' experience to the role himself.

The pair, who have both been kitchen trained and held managerial roles in the past, recently moved to Macclesfield from Buxton.

They officially took charge of The Bate Hall on Tuesday, January 14.

Karly said: "We had been looking to take over a pub for a while and decided to go to Marston's as I have worked for them before.

"We visited The Bate Hall and instantly felt at home.

"The first few weeks have been great.

"We have met a lot of the customers and they've made it feel even more like home!"

Karly and Nathan are planning to introduce live music, starting with a free gig from Rain City Roses on Saturday, February 22.

They will also be hosting a 'meet and eat' event when the new menu goes live, giving customers a chance to meet them and try the food at a discounted price.
