Footway improvement works to bring four weeks of road closures

Weston residents are preparing for four weeks of disruption.
Cheshire East Council has confirmed that phase two of the footway improvement scheme on Earlsway will get underway at the end of the month.
The road will closed between the hours of 8am and 5pm from June 30 until July 25.
Councillor Mark Goldsmith, chair of Cheshire East Council's highways and transport committee, said: "Phase one of the Earlsway scheme in Macclesfield, covering the section from Gawsworth Road to Bostock Road, was successfully completed in December 2024 with funding from the Government's Network North initiative.
"We are now preparing to begin phase two, which will upgrade the footways between Bostock Road and Princes Way.
"These works are scheduled to start on June 30 and are expected to take approximately four weeks to complete, excluding weekends.
"Work will be carried out between 8am and 5pm daily, under a road closure to ensure the safety of both workers and the public."
The footway is being improved under the 'Flags to Flexi' scheme.
This is described as environmentally and cost-effective technique that sees existing paving materials recycled, reducing waste and minimise the need to transport new materials.
Councillor Goldsmith added: "We're investing £53 million into our network this financial year, with £450,000 allocated for all footway improvement schemes.
"We can't promise to deliver everything for everybody, everywhere - so we aim to ensure we invest in the right treatment at the right place and at the right time."
