Macclesfield FC's unofficial club anthem now has a music video.

The music video for Glass Ankle's single Super Silkmen, which has just released, already has over 1,000 views on YouTube.

The indie rock twinged banger, has attracted the attention of Macc's new football club.

The new owner of the Silkmen, Robert Smethurst has liked the video on Facebook.

Macclesfield FC have also posted their clip across their social media, for which the local band are eternally grateful for.

The video is a labour of love for all things Silkmen, and features fans of all-ages singing their hearts out to the 4-minute track.

It also features cameos from over 20 beloved players, courtesy of the photographers behind the images of historic Silkmen.

Macclesfield Nub News spoke again to Glass Ankle songwriter, Greg Jackson about how the new video came to be, and the reaction to the single release last month.

"The response has been great. Some of the comments have blown me away", said Greg.

"One chap believes "It could be up there with Three Lions and Back Home as the greatest footy song ever.

"I'm certainly not going to stand in the way of his opinion on that. It means so much that people are enjoying it.

"I am humbled and honoured that all of those involved took the time to contribute and be a part of the video."

The video also features Peter Hilton's photography of ex-manager Keith Alexander and midfielder Richard Butcher, who unfortunately passed away at the start of last decade.

Richard Butcher's mother Gail got in touch with singer-songwriter Greg and gave her blessing.

The music video has also launched with a videogame, where fans can score goals as Macc legends old and new.

"Friend and former Glass Ankle guitarist and bassist, Samir Graba made the game. He is a man of many talents," added Greg.

"It is a retro arcade-style 5-a-side footy game for Mac and PC, set in a virtual Moss Rose.

"Players play as Macclesfield FC and control legends: Ryan Price, Danny Whitaker, Steve Wood, David Fitzpatrick, and (Sir) John Askey VS Icerinkham FC (The Bobbins)."

The song was originally written to save the club known as Macclesfield Town, before their winding up order led to the formation of Macclesfield FC.

It is hoped that Super Silkmen can be heard by fans and players alike ahead of their first season in the North West Counties Football League.

The band which formed in 2010, spent their formative years in Japan.

Super Silkmen will remain a non-album single, and not feature on Glass Ankle's upcoming album.

However, they hope to release it on vinyl with a remix ideally in time for Record Store Day.

It is not Glass Ankle's first YouTube video for Macclesfield legends.

Glass Ankle also recently had a successful YouTube cover Joy Division's Isolation, which was partially written by King's School Graduate Ian Curtis and Macclesfield-born Stephen Morris.

Their influences include 13-era Blur along with Glaswegian melodic pop band Belle and Sebastian.

Glass Ankle have attracted the attention of BBC Radio 6 Music's Tom Robinson who described them as "Elegantly understated".
