Tytherington High School has applied for planning for permission to install six "emergency" temporary classrooms to meet the additional demand expected in September.
Manny Botwe, the headteacher of the Manchester Road based school said the school was "significantly oversubscribed" and the additional classrooms were needed to accommodate the pupils.
He told Macclesfield Nub News: "We're taking on more students to ensure that more youngsters are educated in Macclesfield."
The school's admission number currently sits at 210 pupils, but they plan to admit 240 in September, similar to what they have done the previous year.
Asked about plans to permanent plans to expand the school, Mr Botwe responded: "That will depend on the demographics and the continued popularity of the school.
"There's quite a bit of demand to get places, but obviously we only want to expand as much as our footprint can take."
Plans for any permanent expansion will form part of long-term planning between the school and Cheshire East Council.
Mr Botwe said the classrooms will take the form of modular structures and while not intended to be permanent, they could accommodate pupils for "some time", if needed.
A Nature Conservation Officer from the council has recommended that there be "no removal of any vegetation or the demolition or conversion of buildings shall take place between 1st March and 31st August in any year, unless a detailed survey has been carried out to check for nesting birds."
The officer also recommended a number of other measures during construction to protect nesting birds.
The last date for submitting comments on the planning application is on 13th May with a decision expected to be taken by 10th June by a council planning officer.
