Pinch, punch, first of the month.

And speaking of physical activity, a Macclesfield charity is inviting you to exercise all-October to raise money for them.

East Cheshire Hospice, the acclaimed end-of-life care centre, going for almost 40 years on Millbank Drive, wants you to fundraise for them throughout October.

Squat-tober (or Squatober) if you prefer, is the name of the challenge, which invites you to squat every day in October.

31 days, of squatting at your own pace, and rep count.

The Hospice recommends you do 2000, which averages out at 64.51 squats per day (don't ask about how to do the half squat), but it is not essential to reach that amount to sign up for the fund-raising challenge.

Luke Hughes, the charity's community and events assistant said: "It doesn't necessarily need to be that many squats.

"The number depends entirely on what is realistic for each individual. Squats can be done at home, outside, work or in the gym.

It is a busy time of year for the Hospice, as their Art Fair is also currently on in Macclesfield Town Hall. And 'Will Month' is also currently on. (Image - Macclesfield Nub News)

"This is an online virtual fundraiser and updates will be shared on Facebook, though you don't need to be on social media and can receive emails instead.

"It's an exciting opportunity to challenge yourself physically, set new fitness goals and make a positive difference in your community.

"Whether you're a fitness enthusiast or a beginner looking to improve your strength, Squatober welcomes everyone to join in and contribute to a fantastic cause.

"Squats engage lower body muscles and improve overall strength and endurance."

The last month-long initiative organised by the Hospice was March through March which raised more than £2,000. The event involved taking at least 300,000 steps. Squat-tober also follows a fundraising yoga challenge on for a fortnight last month.

Despite October having already started, it is not to late to register for Squatober. Please visit www.eastcheshirehospice.org.uk/squatober to do so, where you can also find guidance on how to squat.

For more details, please call Luke on 01625 666998 or email [email protected].

East Cheshire Hospice is not the only charity inviting people to get their leg muscles pumping for charity.

National charity Diabetes UK is also currently challenging people to take part in Squatter.

It is a busy time of year for the Hospice, as their Art Fair is also currently on in Macclesfield Town Hall, Market Place. And 'Will Month' is also going on for the whole of October.
