Mammoth medal haul and visit from Olympic gold medallist among highlights of swimming club's record-breaking year
2024 proved to be a record-breaking year for a local swimming club.
Satellites swimming Club, based at Macclesfield Leisure Centre, enjoyed a phenomenal year as they continued to champion grassroots sport in Cheshire.
The club celebrated achievements across local, regional, national and even international competitions as members broke 65 all-time club records.
The year was capped off with success at the Last Chance County Qualifiers, with Satellites bringing home a haul of medals.
Head coach Ben Cleaveley said: "Our Last Chance County Qualifier was a fantastic way to wrap up the year.
"We saw many swimmers achieve their County qualification times across all our competitive squads, right down to our academy squads.
"Many swimmers also hit the standards needed to move up training squads, reflecting their hard work and progress.
"The meet was filled with countless personal bests and an impressive haul of medals, showcasing the depth of talent within the team.
"It was a strong finish to a successful 2024, and I'm incredibly proud of the team's effort and commitment.
"Here's to more fast swimming in 2025!"
In 2024, Satellites won 72 medals at the County Championships, 16 medals in regional competition and two at a national level.
Meanwhile, the club's Para Squad competed at the British Para International Championships, the CP National championships, the Winter Para Nationals and more.
Another highlight of the year saw two-time Olympic gold medallist Matt Richards pay the club a visit.
The 22-year-old popped by in November to host a freestyle clinic with the club's A, B and C squads as well as speak about his career.
