Fresh attempt for town centre flats inside former historic cinema
There's a new planning application for an old building in central Macclesfield.
A second attempt to build flats at the rear of 91-93 Mill Street has been submitted to Cheshire East Council.
An initial attempt came to a head last September, but has remerged this week.
It proposes a "Proposed partial demolition and conversion to ten one bedroom apartments."
The site is to the back of 91-93 Mill Street, but not where nightclub The Cave Macclesfield currently occupies, despite sharing part of an address.
The Cave only occupies a portion of what used to be the old Revolution bar, and many years before that, an old Macclesfield cinema.
A planning document went on to detail the proposed accommodation: "The application relates to The Revolution Public House and Night Club at 91-93 Mill Street.
"The property is set over two floors with bars and ancillary accommodation on both floors.
"The Public House closed in 2020 but is now open but only trading on the Ground Floor and at limited times.
"The previous Planning Application for partial demolition and new build apartments was refused.
"The proposals are to convert the existing bar/cinema area into 12 No 1 Bed Flats. [This is an error from the previous application, it is actually for ten.]
"The existing roof form will remain and the flats formed within with roof lights and windows to the wall area.
"The proposed Apartments are served with windows and rooflights within the existing roof.
"Within the scheme there will be provision for communal amenity spaces and landscaped gardens with private spaces.
"The proposals does not provide any parking spaces but will be provided with secure Cycle storage.
"The site is in a Town Centre location with on street parking and a large car park to the rear [Duke Street].
"The scheme provides for Town Centre Living and regenerating the area.
"The proposals have created a Bin Storage area with the scheme with Bin Collection point within the site."
There are two less flats planned this time around, than the previous attempt.
However, on multiple occasions, planning documents suggest it is still 12 apartments planned for the site.
But the application form confirms the plans have been reduced to ten flats.
400 more square metres of indoor floorspace will be created, should the plans get the green light.
The applicant went on to claim that the proposals create a 'sustainable' purpose for the site.
Macclesfield residents can read the full application HERE, and they have until Valentine's Day to respond to the plans.
