Number plate system to end at Macclesfield and Bollington tips

By James Kelly 4th Jun 2020

Cheshire East Council will be lifting the number plate system that has dictated who could access the Macclesfield and Bollington tips since they reopened last month.

The changes will take effect tomorrow (5 June), meaning that people will no longer have to check whether their car number plates end in an odd or even number to go to the Household Waste Recycling Centres on a particular day.

The measures were put in place to prevent long queues when the sites reopened.

Some of the other restrictions have also been lifted this week, as those driving vans and people on foot can now use the site.

From Monday (8 June), the traffic management systems will also be lifted. The recycling centres have been operating a 'one in, one out' rule to prevent overcrowding.

The council has said the waste and recycling centres across the borough have coped well since they reopened.

Social distancing rules will still have to be followed with people remaining two metres apart and staff at the sites will still not be able to help users to unload and lift items.
