Running with Royalty at Pott Shrigley this month
The Pott Shrigley Rose Queen Ceremony and Shrigley Stag Fell Race is almost upon us.
The annual day of festivities will take place on the afternoon of Saturday June 15 2024.
The picturesque village of Pott Shrigley, near Macclesfield, is busily preparing for the highly-anticipated annual Rose Queen, Stag Fell Race, and Dog Show.
The festivities will kick off with a procession led by the 2024 Rose Queen, starting at 2:00 pm from the village school's playground.
Accompanied by her entourage and enthusiastic onlookers, the procession will make its way to the village green where the grand Rose Queen crowning ceremony will be held.
This family-friendly event promises an afternoon filled with activities for everyone. There will be a range of traditional attractions including a dog show, BBQ, cream teas, beer tent, tombola, and a tempting cake stall.
Adding to the excitement, this year's festivities coincide with the Shrigley Stag Fell Race—a thrilling 10k event featuring a challenging 290m ascent.
The race, starting at Shrigley Brickworks - also at 2:00 pm - takes runners through flowing, hilly terrain, including the stunning backdrop of Lyme Park. Participants will navigate through Shrigley Hall and finally cross the finish line at Pott Shrigley village green.
Posting on their Facebook page, race organisers say, "The Shrigley Stag Fell Race is a 10km race over a well-marked but 'off-road' course. It has a couple of technical sections if run fast but is by no means a technical course."
"The hills are tough but runnable and there are some lovely flowing sections through woodland and over moorland. The race has excellent prizes from our sponsor (Shrigley Hall Hotel & Spa) so it has something for the elite athlete, but it is also part of a family fun village fete with activities for the kids and a bar and a tea tent.
"Everyone is welcome. Finishing times range from 40 minutes to 90 minutes."
Don't miss this unique opportunity to experience the magic of Pott Shrigley's Rose Queen crowning ceremony and the thrill of the Shrigley Stag Fell Race on June 15, and be a part of the festivities that celebrate tradition, community, and the beauty of the Cheshire countryside.
Admission to the Rose Queen event is only £1 per person. Race entry £12, in advance or £15 on the day.
