An American sport is celebrating six-months at Macclesfield Tennis Club.

Pickleball has seen a surge in memberships in Macc, so much so that it now demands three sessions per week.

Pickleball is like tennis but with a lighter ball, which means the game is a different pace to tennis and less heavy on the joints.

This means it is a game suitable for all ages, and is less likely to cause injuries.

It also slightly differs from tennis, as you can only score when you are serving.

Organiser Mary Kirkpatrick said: "Don't miss your chance to try out this great fun, easy to learn, sport."

"It is like tennis, badminton, table tennis all-rolled into one!

"Half hour taster sessions are free by arrangement.

"Club sessions are Saturday mornings, Sunday mornings, and Tuesday evenings.

"Beginners and less confident players meet on Saturday at 11.00.

"Pay and play for £3 or join as a member for £45 a year."

The sport was invented in 1965, and has almost five million players globally according to the Sports and Fitness Industry Association. (Image - Macclesfield Nub News)
