A scary walking tour will take place on Halloween, with history, and spooky stories from our town.

Paradise Mill, who already celebrate our town's past alongside parent organisation The Silk Museum, are hosting a spooky walk around Macclesfield on October 31.

The ticketed event will teach you a thing or two about the town, and get you in the seasonal spirit.

A similar event was held last year. And this year's event will take place on October 31 from 6pm to 8pm.

"Join our Paradise Mill guide, Tina Russell-Cruise, on a walking tour of Macclesfield's spooky landmarks," said Paradise Mill.

"From haunted pubs to ghostly singing, with legends and surprising histories all the way.

"Enjoy a glass of mulled wine or apple juice in a local bar at the finish of the walk – this is included in the ticket price.

"Please meet outside the Silk Museum entrance on Park Lane, and the walk will conclude at The Fountain with a warm drink.

"Cost £16 per person. Suitable for ages 18 and over.

"Our museum shop is open Wednesday - Saturday 10-4 to buy crochet pumpkins and other delights!"

Macclesfield has its fair share of ghost stories, with a number of pubs, halls and other buildings claiming to have ghosts.

Macclesfield is known for having what is believed to be one of the UK's most haunted pubs in The Bate Hall, which dates back to the 16th century. (Image - Macclesfield Nub News)

The 500-year-old Bate Hall Hotel on Chestergate, for instance, claims to have a number of phantoms. From the story of young spectre Billy who hangs around at the bar, to the ethereal 'grey' woman - hung as a witch in the building's stairway - who reportedly haunts the surrounding vacant apartments.

Further afield (unfortunately beyond the scope of the walk) is Capesthorne Hall in Siddington, where an episode of TV's Most Haunted was filmed. According to folklore, this 18th century hall houses a cadaverous company of ghosts, with groups of mysterious shadows and - coincidentally - another 'grey' lady.

Near Gawsworth, ghost hunters can also find Maggoty Lane, where the spectral figure of Samuel 'Maggoty' Johnson (1691-1773) is rumoured to be seen dancing around merrily. He is believed to be buried in unconsecrated ground in the nearby forest, and was the last 'real' jester in England.

Although the walk may not incorporate all of these spooky locations, there is still plenty to see.
