The number of empty houses across Macclesfield revealed
The number of empty homes across Macclesfield has been released.
New local government numbers for unoccupied houses, when combined with central government figures suggest there is a stark increase in empty properties in our area.
Statistics for 2021 were sourced via a Freedom of Information request, submitted by Macclesfield Nub News to Cheshire East Council.
According to our local authority, there are 3303 unoccupied houses across Cheshire East's 134 parish and town councils.
Separate government data sorted by actiononemptyhomes.org, discloses there were 1781 empty homes in Cheshire East in 2019, and 2002 in 2020. This suggests 2021's total has almost doubled from 2019.
There are currently 462 empty homes in the central area served by Macclesfield Town Council.
To the north of the town centre there are 76 empty homes in the civil parish of Bollington, and 45 in the expensive village of Prestbury.
Elsewhere in the parliamentary constituency of Macclesfield, there are 74 uninhabited properties reported by Poynton-with-Worth Town Council.
Despite having just over 1,000 residents, there are over 24 vacant abodes in the small village of Adlington.
Meanwhile, to the south of Macclesfield, there are 19 in Sutton, and 8 in Gawsworth.
There are 24 addresses without a tenant in Over Alderley, and nine empty properties in the parish of Henbury.
Lower figures revealed six empty houses in Lower Withington, to five-a-piece in Rainow and Bosley.
Nub News reported earlier today on the status of a former empty home in Bollington, that was being used as a drug den.
