Silktown Snooker Club on Green Street is hosting VE Fest to mark the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II in Europe.

For owner Sammie Whalley, VE Day has always held a special place in her heart.

"I remember celebrating VE Day at street parties in my hometown of Bollington when I was younger and always enjoyed the community spirit," she said.

"My late nan, Jacqueline Lomas, was a war evacuee from Guernsey and always used to tell my three sisters and me stories of how life was for her after the war finished.

"Her parents had both passed away and her three older siblings all separated.

"Her eldest brother to Australia and the second brother to France. Luckily her sister, Doreen, had been evacuated to England with her and was taken in by a family in Bury.

"Both Sisters stayed in England with their adoptive families after the war had ended and my nan spent the rest of her life in Bollington and had four children of her own, the youngest, my mum."

Silktown Snooker's VE Fest takes on Sunday (May 4), so people can make the most of the Bank Holiday Weekend.

Gates open at 12pm, with live music from 3pm to 9.30pm.

Taking to the stage are VB5 and Ash Wall's SCRATCH.

A hog roast, as well as vegetarian options, will be ready to go from 3pm with Granelli's ice cream van expected to arrive around the same time.

Pizzas will be served from the club's outdoor pizza oven from 6pm.

Staff will be wearing 1940s attire and guests are encouraged to do the same, with a £50 bar tab for the best dressed.

Sammie, 37, said: "We have VE decorations around the venue and with live music and good food I'm hoping we can recreate a euphoric VE Day street party atmosphere!"

The event will help to raise money for the Macclesfield Armed Forces Veterans Breakfast Club (MAFVBC)

Sammie added: "We wanted to raise money for this charity as VE Day celebrates local community so we wanted to make sure we were raising donations for a local veterans group.

"The MAFVBC strives to provide a supportive and friendly haven for veterans in the Macclesfield area.

"Any donations raised will go towards funding their local events in thanks for everything they have done for their community and their country."

Tickets for VE Fest are available via Eventbrite and can be picked up from behind the bar or purchased on the door on the day.

They are priced at £8 for general admission and £4 for under 18's (until 7pm only), with free admission for those aged 65 and over.
