Groundskeeping staff at the King's School Macclesfield have paid tribute to NHS workers with a massive sign saying 'Thank You' on the playing fields.

The tribute was the idea of Carl McCormack, the deputy head of the groundskeeping team at the school, who has been maintaining the playing fields while the school remains closed due to Covid-19.

He told Macclesfield Nub News that it had been something he had wanted to for a while, but the rest of the staff were on furlough, so had to wait until his colleague, Rick Astley (not that one), came back into work.

Carl said: "As soon as Rick came into work, I thought it was the perfect time to try and do it just to say thank you to the people we know, but also to the wider NHS staff.

"Rick and myself know quite a few nurses and ambulance staff personally, either as friends or family, so we just wanted to give them a thank you from ourselves, but also the school."

He added: "We wanted to let NHS staff know what we and the school think of them."

The tribute was created with line marking machines and paint that would normally be used during the school's busy cricket or rugby seasons on the Derby playing fields.
