A football club is swapping muddy boots for boxing gloves.

Tytherington FC is preparing to stage a charity boxing night at Macclesfield Town Hall.

Taking place next Saturday, November 8, the sold-out event will raise money for East Cheshire Hospice, Silklife Food Bank and Space4Autism.

Club secretary Matt O'Brien said: "While we're a self-funded grassroots football charity ourselves, we've always believed it's important to give back to others who do so much for the local community."

A mix of parents and coaches from the football club have spent eight weeks training for the event.

Coaching them is ex-professional boxer Liam Hanrahan and former amateur star Curtis Hornby – both current coaches at Tytherington FC.

"Liam really has gone above and beyond in putting this whole show together," Matt added.

"The impact on the volunteers has been huge, both physically and mentally.

"We've had fantastic feedback about fitness improvements, confidence, and weight loss — but also how much it's helped people's mental health and sense of purpose."

The event has been made possible thanks to club sponsor, Edgar Brothers.

Sales director Mike Newman said: "As a former Tytherington FC player, it makes me incredibly proud to support yet another amazing initiative from Tytherington FC.

"The club does so much for the community — often quietly and without recognition — and it's incredible to see how far their impact reaches beyond football.

"Supporting projects like this is exactly what local businesses should be doing, and we're thrilled to play a small part in it."

At the time of writing, the club has raised just under £3,000 for the three charities.
