A Paul Dawson header and an Isaac Buckley-Ricketts goal send Macclesfield into the fourth round of the FA Cup for the first time since reforming in the biggest upset in FA Cup history.
A non-league side haven't beaten the FA Cup holders since 1909. No sixth-tier side have ever beaten a first division side in the history of the cup. Only three fifth-tier sides have achieved that feat since 1980.
In front of a sold-out, record-breaking Moss Rose, Macclesfield beat the cup holders and the team that are 116 places above them.
After a rogue cone was thrown off the pitch by captain Paul Dawson, Macclesfield started on top after the skipper clashed heads with Canvot.
The first chance of the game came after thirteen minutes when Yeremy Pino found space in the Macclesfield box but could only find the side netting.
The Silkmen's first chance came minutes later, when Paul Dawson put a dangerous cross into the box, which was cleared as far as Luis Lacey who put a tame shot into the arms of Benitez.
Palace went close again after 27 when Christantus Uche found space on the edge of the area and shaved the top of the crossbar.
The breakthrough came for Macc when skipper Paul Dawson headed home a Luke Duffy free kick to put the Silkmen 1-0 up and sent the Star Lane Stand into pandemonium. Dawson writes himself into Macclesfield and FA Cup folklore with his third FA Cup goal of the season.
Despite three half time changes for Palace, Macc started the better as Josh Kay blazed a half volley over the Silkmen stand, and he tried again seven minutes later but that one went just over the bar.
The Silkmen dominated the first third of the second half as Edmondson made some space on the edge of the Palace half but drove one into the arms of Benitez.
Macclesfield's dominate proved worthwhile after Isaac Buckley-Ricketts dribbled one home following pinball in the box, making it 2-0 to the Silkmen after an hour.
Palace's first chance of the half came minutes after when Uche dragged a shot just wide of the left-hand post.
Palace thought they had one back when Uche headed one home from close range, but half-time substitute Brennan Johnson was caught offside for Palace's fifth offside of the afternoon.
Palace piled on the pressure in the last 20 minutes, as Wharton hit one on the volley from the near side of the box and required a top tier save from Max Dearnley.
Mitchell slashed one across the face of goal with ten minutes to go, as Uche headed one just wide, before Pino scored a free kick from the edge of the area in the dying moments to make the more than 5,000 Macc fans anxious.
That pressure came to no avail, and Moss Rose erupted at the final whistle.
Owner Rob Smethurst said he would take the whole squad to Ibiza if they won, so I imagine they won't be bothered with their FA Trophy game at Woking on Tuesday.
