A first half Danny Elliott hat-trick led Macclesfield to a historic FA Cup victory.

The Silkmen booked their place in the second round of the legendary knockout competition with a 6-3 win at home to AFC Totton.

Man of the match Elliott took just 36 minutes to bag three goals as the sides went tit for tat in the opening half.

However, the hosts took control after the break to earn a first-ever win in the FA Cup proper and with it, a spot in Monday's draw.

It was a frantic opening to the game, Elliott heading in a Josh Kay cross to open the scoring with six minutes played.

Just three minutes later the visitors would score an almost identical goal through Tony Lee.

However, Elliott struck again with just under 15 minutes played to regain the lead for Macclesfield.

Having seen his initial effort saved, the ball fell kindly to Elliott who had the simple job of passing it into an open net.

Chants of Wembley from the home fans proved a little premature, Totton once again taking three minutes to find an equaliser, this time through captain Scott Rendell.

Rendell then gave the visitors the lead for the first time, his stunning volley leaving the Macc shotstopper no chance.

Elliott completed his hat-trick on the 36-minute mark to level the score once more, the sides heading into the break three goals apiece.

Mere seconds into the second half 'captain fantastic' Paul Dawson gave the hosts the lead once more, his long range strike besting the outstretched keeper.

A series of corners just after the hour mark would eventually result in a fifth for Macclesfield, Rollin Menayese stabbing the ball in following a scramble in the AFC Totton box.

With just over ten minutes remaining, Lewis Fensome put the game to bed with a composed finish inside the box making it 6-3.

It's fair to say the 2,197-strong crowd were treated to a bit of FA Cup magic on Saturday.

Now, Silkmen fans can eagerly await Monday's second round draw.
