A Macclesfield eatery is donating to help the wildfire relief on the Greek island of Evia.
Ethos Concept Store, which opened on Chestergate earlier in the year, has quickly become a beloved vegan café and lifestyle store.
The raging inferno started on August 3, with at least two residents of Evia sadly having been confirmed dead. At least 150 have lost their homes.
Ethos' co-founder Adonis Norouznia, who lives in Macclesfield, moved to the UK from the Greek island of Santorini almost five years ago.
He wants to help the island populated by about 200,000 people, but can't do it without the people of Macc.
He was compelled to start a JustGiving page for those suffering on second-largest Greek island, as a fellow Greek islander.
Adonis' wife Fey Manari, who co-founded the business, is currently in Greece and helping the Evia wildfire relief.
She is giving aid by providing water and food, and is close to the Mayor of Evia. So the Macclesfield business are helping out from afar, and also in person.
Additionally, any cakes purchased from the Chestergate store in the foreseeable future will see a portion directly donated to the Evia wildfire victims.
"Evia in Greece is currently battling nightmare wildfires during the worst heatwave in years," said the Ethos-Evia JustGiving page.
"Huge, uncontrollable fires have forced thousands of people from more than 15 villages to evacuate as the fires continue to spread.
"Over 150 homes have burned, despite the ongoing efforts from firefighters, and many people and animals are experiencing breathing difficulties from the ash and smoke.
"Greece is our homeland and we want to do everything we can to help support the locals through this awful time.
"We're raising money to help everyone who's lost their homes, the firefighters and the wildlife affected by these devastating fires.
"We'll be selling cakes in our vegan café in Macclesfield and donating a percentage, but we want to do as much as we can to raise funds.
"We have also set up a JustGiving page for those who would like to help remotely. We'd really appreciate any donation you can make; nothing is too little."
The Macclesfield company wants to raise just £500 on the crowdfunder for the blaze, linked to climate change.
Ethos have raised over £120 in the first few days on JustGiving alone, already over a fifth into their goal.
This is excluding the money raised from an unspecified sales percentage of their vegan cakes, which have won the hearts of Maxonian's since Ethos' opening in April 2021.
Macclesfield Nub News was set to post an article profiling the future of the business in greater detail ahead of their sixth month birthday, but have postponed this with the recent news of this natural disaster.
Ethos hire 12 people in Macclesfield.
