A brand new events company for Macclesfield is stocking masks inspired by the hit show Squid Game.

Abbey Festive Decor, who operate from a small office on Queen's Avenue, are selling four masks based on characters from the popular South Korean Netflix show.

Strapped masks of The Front Man, and the three shaped classes of guards are available to purchase.

A single mask and local delivery is just £9.99, but you can buy all four if you like, and have it delivered to your home in Macclesfield.

It is part of their first offering of products from their Halloween section, where customers will eventually be able to both hire and purchase many more Halloween products.

The business was started by Scott Hulme (55), who is the Director of the special occasions venture.

"They came in stock last Thursday and we've sold 25 already", said Scott.

"To me I see this [Squid Game] as the skateboard of the 1970s - everyone will want it.

"We've got access to more if they sell out".

The nine-part TV series, which released in September, sees hundreds of cash-strapped competitors competing in children's games to win prizes.

The Macc business believes the masks would make perfect trick-or-treat outfit or Christmas gift.

Also during last month Scott employed Megan Jones (21), who specialises in business development, and is the first of many Macclesfield residents he hopes to eventually hire.

"We were talking about how popular [Squid Game] is in the office", she said.

"But before we found the masks we were debating whether to sell stuff for Halloween as we left it quite late in the year.

"And then Scott's son asked him for a Squid Game costume for Halloween, so we thought it might be a big opportunity to get sales and attention to the company."

Aside Abbey Festive Decor, multi-faceted businessman Scott also runs other Macclesfield businesses.

These include GEC Home Improvements, GEC Cleaning Services, and GEC Trade Outlet. Which are available for trade suppliers and the public. The GEC brand celebrates their 10th anniversary next year.

The Squid Game-selling business was started from a visit to New York in Christmas 2019, where in the affluent Brooklyn neighbourhood of Dyker Heights, they are known to have amazing and elaborate Christmas displays.

Scott thought he could bring some of this spirit to Macclesfield, but he had to delay starting his company which relied on events and face-to-face meetings, due to the start of the pandemic.

"I finally soft-launched last October", he recalled.

"It was a challenge as we were still half-in half-out of a lockdown. But it turned out to be okay.

"I managed to get limited stock in, because ordinarily as a company you order your Christmas decorations stock in January and February.

"I didn't get mine until the end of October but still did very well.

"And now this year we've just launched our new website [where you can buy the masks] and we also provide hire and sales of Christmas decorations.

"With Megan on board, it is already expanding from seasonal Halloween and Christmas decorations, to doing events and looking into the hire of products for wedding occasions."

Scott and Megan have also launched Abbey Festive Catering Services this year, following the success of their costume and decoration company.

The Bollinbrook resident and entrepreneur is also helping out in the community to raise awareness of his newer companies.

In the past, they have sponsored two professional boxers who attended the Macclesfield Boys Boxing Club on Park Green.

Abbey Festive Decor are also giving free Christmas decorations to Macclesfield's East Cheshire Hospice on Millbank Drive, and Henry's Café in Prestbury.
