Macclesfield Royal British Legion are asking for more poppy sellers to volunteer, ahead of Remembrance Sunday.

Anyone can help, no matter age, race, gender or sexual orientation.

All funds will go straight to the charity which helps remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice.

Paul Turner, Poppy Appeal organiser for Macclesfield said:

"We are always looking for volunteer collectors to be out on the streets collecting for the poppy appeal.

"If anyone would like to volunteer they can come into the shop Monday To Saturday 10-1500 hrs or phone on 01625669876 or email us at [email protected].

"Thank you to all those from Macclesfield who help every year."

Their Royal British Legion premesis can be found on 76 Chestergate.

They're open from 10am - 4pm Monday-Friday.

A service for Remembrance Sunday will be held at the Park Green Cenotaph on Sunday 14th November 2021, starting just before 11am.

The accompanying Macclesfield parade will start from Town Hall on Market Place, and arriving at the Cenotaph ready for the 11 o'clock silence.

There will then be a service before, marching back up to the Town Hall for the Mayor and associates to take the salute.

The Parade Marshal is Peter Lake, and Silk Brass will march and play.

Remembrance Sunday honours British and Commonwealth military and civilian servicemen and women in the two World Wars and later conflicts.

It is the first Remembrance Sunday since the fall of Afghanistan to Taliban forces in August.

Macclesfield Town Council have heeded warning about the virus, ahead of the event.

"Please be reminded that cases of Covid-19 remain high in the area," they said.

"To reduce transmission, register your attendance by scanning the QR code available on the day around the area and on the Order of Service.

"Please wear a face covering and practice social distancing.

"Do not attend if you or any member of your household, or anyone you have had close contact with has, suffered from any of the symptoms of Covid-19 or you have tested positive for Covid-19."

The day prior on November 13, Macclesfield Male Voice Choir will be hosting a performance.

Their Remembrance Concert will be held from 7:30pm-10:30pm at Macclesfield Methodist Church on Westminster Road.

It will also serve as a concert to remember those who have passed during the pandemic in our town. Tickets are now available online by clicking here.

In total, the names of 882 deceased local soldiers are immortalised into stone at the Park Green site.

There are rumours of campaigns to get Macclesfield women who served and died from our town to be etched on the Cenotaph as well.

Macclesfield Cenotaph turned 100 earlier this year.
