A Macclesfield bar is celebrating re-opening today, after being shut for almost 500 days.
The Treacle Tap, located on 43 Sunderland Street, shut due to the coronavirus pandemic on March 16 2020.
493 days later, the Macclesfield micropub is re-opening their doors to serve drinks and food once more.
Bar owner Bronwyn Riley spoke to Macclesfield Nub News about the great news.
"We've been shut for so long because the bar is really small," said Bronwyn.
"So even when we were 'permitted' to open, we could only have had 4 tables with the spacing rules, so it wouldn't have been viable.
"We have three handpulls serving rotating locally brewed real ale, plus ten keg fonts on the wall with varied, exciting craft beers. We also serve good quality wines, spirits and soft drinks."
"We will worry about the rules so that customers don't need to.
"We have an enhanced cleaning regime, we will continue to wear masks on our side of the bar, and we will offer table service where possible.
"Customers will be invited to sanitise hands on entry and complete test and trace forms."
Sixteen months on from when they last served our town, the Macclesfield business is opening again from 4pm tonight.
There have been some new changes to award-winning pub.
"My husband Tim and I have worked really hard while we have been closed, added Bronwyn.
"The bar still has the same vibe, but we've repainted it inside and out, and improved the kitchen.
"The colour scheme has changed from a deep red to a more calming 'Stiffkey Blue' from Farrow & Ball.
"We are starting an exciting new menu from next week, our manager Amy is also a brilliant vegetarian chef and is producing some new weekend small plates.
"We have also just taken on a new part timer for re-opening so currently have 5 staff at the TT, Amy, Chris, Tom, Luke and Ben, with brilliant help behind the scenes from Jenny, our administrator. We are very proud of our team.
"Please do support your independent businesses! Every drink you buy really helps. Thank you Macclesfield."
