Our town's MP has discussed a Macclesfield bra company which have designs for breast cancer survivors with a health minister.

David Rutley (60) presented post-mastectomy lingerie specialists Skarlette to fellow Conservative Maria Caulfield.

The Lewes MP, is the Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Patient Safety and Primary Care.

Caulfield (48) has direct interest in her role, and can understand the value of Skarlette's products, as she is also a nurse.

During their meeting, Rutley's team claimed providing assistance for breast cancer patients was at the top of the agenda.

This included discussing the innovative, locally-designed underwear range for those who have had a mastectomy.

NHS staff could soon recommend the Macclesfield companies' products to patients.

The Skarlette range is inspired and co-founded by local practising nurse, Heather Glover, and her business partner, Kate Maurice.

Heather, a double mastectomy survivor and Prevent Breast Cancer charity ambassador, was motivated from her own experiences to design the new range of underwear so breast cancer survivors could choose not to use prosthetics, helping them to feel empowered, comfortable and confident following surgery.

Since Skarlette's launch in March this year, the company has gone from strength to strength.

They now shipping over 40 per cent of its orders to customers overseas, but their products are also popular in Macc.

The Skarlette range was recently nominated in the Enterprise Vision Awards, one of the premier business awards in the North West.

Macclesfield Nub News will reveal if they win in the new year.

Our town's MP of 11 years shared this remarkable success with the Minister, who was pleased and encouraged to learn that Skarlette is making a positive difference to the lives of many women worldwide.

David and the Minister discussed how cancer diagnosis and treatment must continue to be a priority as we move forward through the pandemic, and Ms Caulfield confirmed that protecting these vital services is a clear Government focus.

Thanks to the dedication of NHS staff, over 810,000 people received cancer treatment since the start of the pandemic, with 3.3 million urgent referrals made, with an extra £1 billion made available to support the recovery of elective activity, including cancer services.

Speaking after his meeting, David said, "Heather has long been an inspiration locally and, thanks to the Skarlette range, that now extends to women around the world.

"The products she and Kate have designed fulfil a real need, and support both physical and mental wellbeing for breast cancer survivors.

"I wish Heather and Kate continued success as they look to expand and develop the range in the months

ahead." Skarlette Limited is a registered company in Prestbury. You can browse the attractive and innovative bra range on this link. The timing couldn't come better of Skarlette's success and Mr Rutley's meeting, as The Christie Macclesfield cancer centre treated their first patient just yesterday. Last week, Mr Rutley did not return requests from Macclesfield Nub News for comment last week regarding the Christmas party scandal. It is not known whether he, or any of his staff attended the alleged parties of December 2020, said to be held against COVID-19 restrictions and rules.
