Macclesfield: Silk Road among road closures due to flooding
Extreme weather continues in Macclesfield, with the River Bollin bursting banks at various spots. There are road closures across our town.
Roads into Macclesfield are also affected.
The Silk Road is closed both ways from McDonald's to Bollington roundabout due to flooding. It is not clear when it will re-open.
Flood warnings have also been issued at River Bollin and Rossendale Brook at Langley and Sutton and at Macclesfield riverside properties.
Cheshire Police said in a statement: "Following heavy rainfall, motorists are advised to avoid the roads in the Macclesfield tonight if at all possible.
"If you have to go out onto the wet roads, please adjust your driving accordingly and leave more time for your journey."
The A34 is also flooded in Siddington.
Rain in Macclesfield will continue until 6am tonight, ending with a final bout of heavy rain which will make the drive to work in the morning a tough one.
Temperature-wise, it will be 5-6 degrees for most of tomorrow morning.
The Environment Agency, which officially issued flood warnings from 10.03pm gave a full list of affected locations and said: "River levels are high and continue to rise on the River Bollin due to heavy rainfall.
"Flooding is expected at land and properties near to the River Bollin from 10:15 PM on Wednesday 08/12/2021.
"Further rainfall is forecast overnight. Avoid using low lying footpaths and any bridges near local watercourses and do not attempt to walk or drive through flood water. This message will be updated by on Thursday 09/12/2021, or as the situation changes."
Also in the Flood Warning area are Land and property near to the River Bollin at Pool Street, the railway line and parts of Old Mill Lane, Waterside, Park Green, Green Street, Pickford Street, Sunderland Street and Thorp Street.
