40 new jobs are coming to Macclesfield, as Aldi are set to open their second store in the town.
Earlier in the week, Marks and Spencer announced they would be shutting their Macclesfield town centre store for a new out-of-town shop on Macclesfield's Barracks Mill.
So we also contacted Aldi, who have also purchased a plot at the derelict site of 17 years, to see if they too would be closing their town centre shop for the new £13m Barracks Mill site.
German discount supermarket chain Aldi were delighted to exclusively reveal to Macclesfield Nub News, that over 40 new jobs would come to the town, and they would keep their Queen Victoria Street store open.
An Aldi spokesperson said: "We are proud to be expanding our award-winning offer in Macclesfield by opening a second store in the area."
"We plan to open the new store at Barracks Mill on Black Lane towards the end of 2022, which will bring up to a further 40 new jobs to the community.
"We will keep the community updated on developments."
With just over a year to go until the opening of the new store, Aldi are set to employ almost one hundred in our area by keeping their Queen Victoria Street store open.
Keeping the old store open will also help attract people to our high street, with the Queen Victoria Street Aldi located right next to Macclesfield bus station.
The Black Lane development will host stiff competition to nearby to Hibel Road Tesco, with both M&S Food and Aldi moving in.
B&M and Costa are other stores said to be moving to the Macclesfield Barracks Mill site.
But unlike Aldi, they have not yet responded to comment, regarding the status of their own town centre stores on Exchange Street and Market Place.
This is fantastic news which will ensure a huge town centre retail unit will remain filled, and a new one will open bringing more jobs.
