A new hub for music-fans is set to open in Macclesfield.

Proper Sound will be a space for a celebration of all things music, art and culture.

They will sell apparel, art, records, retro snacks and cookies, alongside locally-sourced beer and coffee.

Macclesfield's next exciting new town centre venture is located on 8 Chestergate.

It will seat guests inside and outside the 18th century building.

Macclesfield Nub News spoke to Proper Sound Founder James King, from Macclesfield.

"During the first lockdown my circumstances changed with my career and I decided to take a big leap and set up on my own, and Proper Sound was born," he said.

"We want to create a space to come together and appreciate music, along with music related clothing, art and apparel.

"There will be the opportunity to sit and relax, grab a coffee or a beer and a nibble, along with our awesome giant 'proper cookies'.

"We are looking to stock some exciting clothing brands that fit in with the musical and artistic vibe of the shop.

"Music and culture is food for the soul and we are so excited to be creating this space to share with Macclesfield and the surrounding area."

James has started the business with his partner, who has previously ran businesses in Macclesfield.

There will be prints and art including local talent from Macclesfield artists and the surrounding Manchester area, as well as many other contemporary artists adorning the walls.

The original Grade II-listed building, has roots back to the Jacobean era, and was most recently a solicitors.

The current shop has been empty for many years, and looking rather sad on the beautiful spot just adjacent to the town centre. Proper Sound will hope to change that for the better.

"The property we have chosen was also very much key in our decision and concept," James added.

"The location and original features create a great space to help rejuvenate the town, whilst complimenting the product range we want to sell.

"We really want to utilise the character of the building and breathe life back into the architecture.

"With many musical connections to the town and area such as Joy Division, New Order, Doves, The Virginmarys, to name a few, as well as global acts, I wanted to really embrace all this culture and create a base for people to appreciate their love of these things in a welcoming and relaxed surrounding."

Proper Sound will aim to open for the town daily Monday to Friday, with later opening hours on the weekends.

Macclesfield Nub News will report on the opening date and launch soon.
