Recent data from the DVLA highlights differences in the EV charging infrastructure across the UK - with the North West ranking 7th worst of any UK region.

Experts from Swansway Motor Group reviewed this data by area and discovered that Cheshire East's 45 chargers rank fourth lowest for electric chargers per 100,000 population within North West region, less than 1/2 of the national figure of 91.

Further reviewing the data, Swansway discovered that the Cheshire East figure is a whopping 8x fewer than the 365 chargers per 100,000 in Inner London.

In light of these figures, motoring experts at Swansway Motor Group are advising electric vehicle drivers in Cheshire East to maximise their EV range by using regenerative braking, removing unnecessary luggage from their vehicle, and avoiding using their air conditioning when driving around the region.

Looking more hyper locally, there are ten locations in the Macclesfield area which boast electric car charging facilities for the public to use.

This is according to ZapMap, who reveal that in these ten locations, there is a combined total of 91 electric car charging ports of various speeds in the Macclesfield area.

Private home use ports have not been counted in the above data. And the term 'Macclesfield area' includes the ports at Shell Tytherington, the Pool Bank Carpark in Bollington, and Goose Green Farm in Mottram. (Full list of locations can be found HERE).

Additionally, Swansway is encouraging drivers to charge at home whenever possible as this is both cheaper and more efficient than using public chargers.

A spokesperson for Swansway said: "These recent statistics reflect how EV infrastructure must develop as we transition into more sustainable transport. Manufacturers are producing cars with ever-increasing ranges but if the infrastructure is not growing at the same rate, then drivers will be put off making the switch to electric vehicles. Cheshire East having less than half of the chargers per 100,000 than the national average sums up the issue."

Here are the Northwest locations ranked lowest pt highest for electric chargers per 100,000 people:

Blackpool 35.5

Blackburn with Darwen 36.8

Halton 43.6

Cheshire East 44.9

Cheshire West and Chester 58.1

Warrington 63.4

Cumberland (from April 2023) 89.5

Westmorland and Furness (from April 2023) 134.8
