The operators of Macclesfield Leisure Centre has accepted more responsibility, that Macclesfield residents will be able to take advantage of from next month.

Independent charity Everybody Health & Leisure will take over the delivery the One You programme across Cheshire East for an initial three-year period with three optional extension years.

One You is a funded service for residents in Cheshire East, offering support with weight management, smoking cessation, falls prevention and physical activity programmes.

The service has been running for seven years and responsibility for delivery will transfer to Everybody Health and Leisure in November 2024.

The service was previously operated by Reed Wellbeing. Everybody will take the reins from November 1.

Everybody Health and Leisure have an established presence in Cheshire East, operating 16 leisure centres and 9 swimming pools across the borough as well as running a host of community focussed projects and events. Over the 10 years Everybody has operated it has built up close relationships with the services that they complement in the region. This includes an effective network of referral channels, that they will be utilising to allow health and social care professions to direct prospective One You course participants to the service. Complementary services like One You are crucial in taking pressure off GPs, pharmacies and other parts of the health and social care services.

Everybody will work closely with Cheshire East Council to deliver the One You programme.

Thomas Barton, CEO of Everybody said: "We are absolutely thrilled to be working in partnership with Cheshire East Council to deliver the One You programme. Cheshire East Council's dedication to delivering this service shows that they are prioritising the health and wellbeing of residents in the face of significant financial constraints. We are delighted to be able to use our considerable expertise and great passion for health and wellbeing to extend these programmes to our local communities."

Helen Charlesworth-May, executive director for adults, health and integration at Cheshire East Council, said: "We are delighted to partner with Everybody Health and Leisure to deliver the One You programme.

"Their proven track record in providing accessible and effective health and wellness services aligns perfectly with our commitment to improving the lives of our residents.

"We are confident that their expertise and dedication will help us continue to make a positive impact on the health and wellbeing across the borough."

The delivery of the One You is not the only extra responsibility the Macclesfield Leisure Centre operators have agreed to this year.

The Holmes Chapel-headquartered charity also agreed to take on a short-term contract rescuing two coffee shops in Cheshire East Council parks under their Taste for Life brand, including the one in West Park.
