Macclesfield brewery releases 'Remembrance Ale' for Royal British Legion charity
A Macclesfield brewery has brewed a charity beer for the sixth time.
Wincle Brewery, of Tolls Bridge Farm, Wincle, has launched Standard Bearer for another year.
The 4.0% beer is described as a 'Remembrance Ale', as it is brewed and sold in the run up to Remembrance Day.
£10 from every cask sold is donated to the Royal British Legion charity. The beer can also be enjoyed at Wincle Brewery's on-site taproom.
Giles Meadows is founder of Wincle Brewery.
"The beer has been selling well. We've sold a lot in Stoke so far," said Giles.
"Standard Bearer is a commemorative charitable beer that we brew every year, this time of year, in association with Hayfield Royal British Legion Branch [in Derbyshire].
"For every barrel of beer that we sell, £10 goes towards the Poppy Appeal at the Legion.
"We brew 60 barrels of it, so hopefully we will sell it all.
"Standard Bearer is a traditional, English quaffing beer.
"It has a great combination of malts. It uses a heritage malt in it, a variety of malt that was traditionally grown years ago, so it has got that traditional background flavour to it.
"Added to that, we have got some fantastic English hops in there too. So it has got a really nice aroma and flavour."

"I have always felt that the Royal British Legion does fantastic work," added Giles.
"My grandfather was a member of the Legion, and I was always very proud of him. He was very proud of the Legion too."
Standard Bearer started in 2017, and has been brewed every year since COVID, raising hundreds of pounds for the Royal British Legion.
The beer is named in honour of Neal Deaville, a standard bearer and representee of Hayfield Royal British Legion since 1963.
Current Hayfield Royal British Legion standard bearer Paul Cooper brought the standard to the Brewery, for a moment of silence, and to be one of the best people to sample this year's Standard Bearer beer.
"A huge thanks to the Legion in Hayfield," added Giles.
"They do a cracking job, and also thank you to all the people that buy it, all the pubs and all their customers that drink it.
"Thank you very much to them."
The Royal British Legion is not the only charity Wincle Brewery has supported this year.
Wincle beers are brewed with spring water, and is found in an idyllic location, next to a river that back 1000 years.
The area where the award-winning brewery is situated today even has a historic connection with soldiers that predates the Royal British Legion.
Bonnie Prince Charlie passed through Wincle with his troops in 1745.
Unfortunately, the Royal and his army were 263 years too early for the founding of Wincle Brewery.
