UP CLOSE - The new jewellery and antiques store in Congleton's indoor market
Visitors to Congleton's indoor market in the past few months may have noticed a new hidden gem, set up just near the entrance.
Churchside Antiques opened in October, and offers a wide range of items - from rare vintage jewellery through to fascinating historical pieces.
Behind the business are Clem and Frank. Clem runs the stall, and Frank is an antiques consultant with a wealth of expertise on hand.
One of the business' specialties is jewellery. The stall stocks a wide range of pieces, with dates ranging anywhere between the early 20th century through to the modern day.
"You can get pieces here which are unusual, or that aren't made anymore", Clem explained. And, further still, you can get it at a fraction of the price of its 'brand new' value.
And many of these pieces have impressive provenances; perhaps it's gold from Italy or Spain, which in years gone by found its way into Manchester's jewellery quarter, converted into a beautiful handmade piece of jewellery, before ultimately winding up here in Congleton. You can find pieces like this (and more) at this lovely stall.
Lots of stock is also bought directly from visitors to the shop.
As Clem explained: "We get a variety of items from people - unusual and unique items. Niche stuff that you might not see yourself in other shops".
One such item was an antique set of bank scales, purchased on the very same morning of Nub News' visit. It's an example not just of the eclectic range of items in store, but also how quickly and frequently such charming oddities come up for sale.
Indeed, Churchside Antiques is not just a place to buy items, but also to sell them, too.
And further still, the business also offers home visits, free valuations, and a cleaning service - if you're looking to get your own jewellery looking spick and span, then this will be a paid cleaning service. However, if you're selling the jewellery, cleaning and / or repair will be included free!
And if you do opt for a valuation, there's no obligation to sell - you'll just get the knowledge of how much your piece is worth!
It's worth noting, in any case, that Churchside can offer better deals than the high street when it comes to selling your items.
Once again, you can find Churchside Anqitues Congleton in the indoor market.
The business is open on Tuesdays and Saturdays, from 9am to 3.30pm.
