A Macclesfield dog in their twilight years is seeking a fur-ever home.

Adorable Shih-Tzu Alfie is up for adoption at RSPCA Macclesfield.

The male mutt has been needing a new home since October, and has had to fight a few health conditions.

A vigilant owner with a lot of love to give is sought, for the dog which will turn 13 in February 2024.

The dog has been neutered, microchipped and vaccinated.

RSPCA Macclesfield's Sophie Spencer said: "This sweet boy Alfie is looking for a loving home."

This gorgeous, little old fella Alfie was found abandoned with another dog who has since been adopted, they were fending for themselves outside.

"Alfie absolutely loves fuss and cuddles, just a really sweet old man looking for a warm, comfortable retirement home. He walks well on lead and is clean most of the time in his kennel. He was found abandoned in the garden with badly matted fur and weepy eyes.

"In terms of health issues… he has a few! He has "dry eye" affecting his right eye so will need Optimmune ointment and eye lubrication twice daily for life in his right eye. He also has a heart murmur which doesn't require treatment currently but will need monitoring.

"A new owner will need to keep an eye out for clinical signs of his heart going into failure, such as coughing and a reluctance to exercise.

"He had an ear infection in both ears when he arrived but this is now cleared up. He will need monitoring and his ears cleaning as and when on a regular basis. His hind legs are sometimes a little uncoordinated and he probably has some nerve degeneration going on but he's very mobile and really enjoys going for his walks.

"He's looking for an adult only home and could possibly live with a dog of a similar size and temperament. We have no history on how he gets on with small animals so may be best not living with any.
