A523 Mill House Bridge repairs cost Cheshire East Council nearly £1.5 million

Repairs to Mill House Bridge cost Cheshire East Council nearly £1.5 million.
A Freedom of Information request has revealed the total cost of the works to repair the bridge along the A523 London Road in Macclesfield to be £1,415,025.62.
These emergency repairs were required after 'extensive' damage caused by a flash flood caused part of the arch structure to collapse.
Much of the work was carried out below the bridge and out of sight of the public, the councill say.
This includes the damming and diversion of the river, joining the new part of the bridge to the existing structure, reinforcing the surrounding north-south retaining wall, underpinning and increasing the size of the bridge's foundation and stabilising the ground.
For motorists at least, the most disruptive aspect of the works were the temporary traffic lights.
These were in place for 582 days, from May 17, 2024, to December 19, 2025.
This cost the council £52,825.06, the FOI submitted by local resident Keith Nixon has revealed.
