It is almost time for Bollington's annual well dressing.

The free festivities will take place from Saturday June 29 to Sunday July 7.

This weekend's opening ceremony will take plac at the Greg Fountain, Flash Lane (opposite the Cock & Pheasant Inn) on June 29 at 11.30 am.

This year's theme is a tribute to Swedish pop legends ABBA.

Co-organiser Janet Beech told Macclesfield Nub News all about this year's efforts.

"The theme is 'Thank You For The Music'," she said.

You can find more about Bollington Well Dressing on Facebook.

"Our main designer loves ABBA.We try to tie the theme in with anniversaries. And this year it has been 50 years Waterloo [won the 1974 Eurovision Song Contest in Brighton]."

Floral tributes include a vibrant 'Dancing Queen' mural out on Queen Street.

'Waterloo' given the name, will accompany the Greg Fountain.

There is a fire within their souls!

'Super Trouper', 'Thank You for the Music' and Grecian-blue artwork devoted to the 'Mamma Mia' movies will be on Market Place.

Also on Market Place, this year will be a new pop-up coffee shop.

Funds from this light refreshment offering will go towards next year's well-dressing.

The volunteers are having the time of their lives.

"Bollington Well Dressing loves to commemorate anniversaries," Janet revealed.

Given this year's major D-Day and First World War anniversaries, there is also a Memorial Garden mural themed around animals that helped during the World Wars.

"We want to recognise these animals as heroes," explained Janet.

While ABBA do have a song called 'Soldiers', there is one non-ABBA themed mural devoted to animals and their roles in the World Wars.

Bollington Cross Primary School will also be submitting an ABBA-themed well dressing mural at Clarence Mill.

Mount Hall Care Home has also submitted a piece.

"We are trying to select places where people can get out of their car, and walk to," she explained.

The tradition will celebrate their 20th birthday next year.

"They can also support the local businesses near the murals like Café Waterside and businesses on Market Place as well.

The first well dressing was in 2005, so the tradition will celebrate the 20th anniversary next year.

15 volunteers were working on the murals at the time of Nub News' visit.

The murals are being assembled at Bollington Cricket Pavillon.
