A 32-year-old striker has signed for Macclesfield FC.

Andy Owens joins the Silkmen as his 19th club, dropping three tiers down the football pyramid to join the exciting Macclesfield FC project.

The Liverpool-born forward could play in the crucial upcoming top of the table clash against Skelmersdale United, which is one of his former clubs.

Andy has played in England and Wales, the latter of which was his best spell of his career, but he hopes better days are ahead with our town's new football club.

It is The Silkmen's second signing in two days, following goalkeeper Dan Wallis.

Andy has been capped twice for England C.

The club said in a statement: "Despite interest from a number of higher division teams, Macclesfield FC are delighted to announce the signing of highly-rated forward Andy Owens.

"Andy arrives at the Leasing.com Stadium from National League North side Chorley and will be eligible to play against Charnock Richard this weekend – subject to Football Association and NWCFL ratification.

"Progressing through the youth ranks at Liverpool, Andy moved to Stoke City in 2007 and after being released by The Potters, enjoyed spells at both Stafford Rangers and Altrincham.

"Andy then joined Rhyl and subsequently completed trial periods at EFL sides Morecambe and Accrington Stanley.

"Previously employed as a centre-half, Andy was then moved into the centre-forward role at Southport – making over sixty appearances for The Sandgrounders over two spells at Haig Avenue.

"Permanent moves to Mansfield Town, AFC Telford United, Marine and Stalybridge Celtic followed – in addition to a return to Altrincham, before Andy hit eleven goals in twenty appearances for Skelmersdale United during the 2017/18 campaign.

"Andy then moved to Connah's Quay Nomads in 2018, where he scored twelve goals in thirty-eight appearances and would spend the 2019/20 season at Airbus UK Broughton as he found the back of the net eight times in twenty-three appearances.

"Returning to England in 2020, Andy signed for Radcliffe before dual-registering with Chorley in 2020.

"Signing for The Magpies on a permanent basis in 2021, Andy arrives at the Leasing.com Stadium with a wealth of experience that could well prove vital in our promotion bid.

"We would like to welcome Andy to the Club."
