Animal rescue teams and firefighters went to free a horse trapped in his horsebox on the M6 near Sandbach.

The animal rescue team from Bollington and Knutsford and firefighters from Sandbach and Knutsford were called to free Rodney the horse at 3.35 pm yesterday (Sunday) after he had become trapped over a bar in his horsebox.

The incident happened between junctions 17 and 16.

A spokesperson from Cheshire Fire & Rescue Service said: "Firefighters removed a panel of a horse box to free a horse that had become stuck.

"With support from an Ashbrook Equine Hospital vet, Rodney was freed unharmed and taken to hospital to rest. Great work all."
