Arrest made following reports of woman carrying a firearm in Macclesfield

A woman has been arrested on suspicion of possessing a firearm.

Cheshire Police were called to reports of a woman carrying a firearm in the Brocklehurst Way area of Macclesfield on Thursday, October 16.

The investigation led officers to addresses at Knights Court off Copper Street and Goulden Close.

A 35-year-old woman was subsequently arrested, with an air rifle recovered by police.

A spokesperson for the force said: "At 7.14am on Thursday, October 16, police were called to reports of a woman, who was possibly carrying a firearm, near Brocklehurst Way, Macclesfield.

"As part of enquiries to locate the woman, armed officers attended addresses in Knights Court, off Copper Street, and Goulden Close, where a 35-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm.

"An air rifle was also recovered.

"She has since been released on bail."
