The artist behind some of Macclesfield's most striking murals has been recognised as one of the best in the world.

Megan Russell, who works under the name Peachzz, has seen one of her creations named the second-best mural in the world.

While that piece is in her hometown of Sheffield, Peachzz will be known to many in Macclesfield for her work at The Snowgoose pub and her Charles Tunnicliffe-inspired mural at the station.

Celebrating her recent accolade, Peachzz said: "I have said it throughout January and I will say it again thank you all so much for your love and support throughout.

"I'm still in shock that 5,656 people voted for me."

Last June, Megan completed a 25.5-metre-tall mural of a kingfisher and a heron on the side of a building in Sheffield city centre.

The artwork, named Reverie, took her around 10 days to complete and is inspired by the city's canal systems.

In January, the piece was nominated for 'Best Mural on the World' in Street Art Cities' 'Best Of' awards 2024.

Having initially finished fourth, Reverie was bumped up to second place after it turned out some people had 'engaged in methods to inflate vote counts'

"We really regret not having found out these exploitations of our system earlier, and would have liked to take action before the winners were announced," said a spokesperson for the awards.

"Our team put a massive amount of effort and care into running the awards campaign, and we're sad to see it being taken advantage of."

Here in Macclesfield, Peachzz' signature can be found on the swifts mural at Macclesfield railway station.

Completed in August 2022, the piece is inspired by Charles Tunnicliffe, an internationally renowned naturalistic painter of British birds and wildlife.

"What a dream project, thanks to everyone involved that made this happen," read a post on Peachzz instagram.

Megan then returned to Macclesfield in March 2023 to create a new mural for the side of the Snowgoose pub, with fellow artist Katie Scott.
