An artist with Down's syndrome and autism is gearing up to launch her own art exhibition.

Macclesfield resident Ava Reid is bringing her latest collection of paintings to the Silk Museum.

'APPARENTLY IT'S ME' is the former All Hallows and Macclesfield College student's third solo show, showcasing her vibrant work inspired by family, friends, pets and the places she loves.

Ava's mother, Heidi Reid, said: "When Ava was born and diagnosed as having Down's syndrome, we were given a frightening list of all the things she wouldn't be able to do.

"At just 22 years of age Ava is both a qualified Level 1 swimming teacher working at Bollington Health and Leisure, and a successful commercial artist.

"I really wish I could go back to Ava's birth and show myself all her wonderful achievements."

Ava paints on canvas using 'my shapes' and is inspired by the work of Gustav Klimt, William Morris and David Hockney.

'APPARENTLY IT'S ME' will run from Wednesday, February 26, until Saturday, March 1.

There will be a closing party from 2pm to 4pm on the Saturday, where Ava will be in attendance to sign postcards and talk about her work.
