Bar inspired by Macclesfield's musical heritage welcomes first customers

A new bar drawing inspiration from Macclesfield's music and cultural heritage is now open.
Diversion Bar & Kitchen on Church Street welcomed its first customers over the bank holiday weekend.
Owner Ashley Farrall couldn't be happier with how things have gone so far, explaining that he wanted to create a space that blends in seamlessly with Macclesfield's existing bar scene.
He said: "Early responses have been positive, particularly around the atmosphere and overall vibe, with a steady mix of local residents and visitors coming through the doors.
"The focus has been on creating something that feels genuine to the area. It's not about trying to be overly slick or high-end.
"We wanted to create somewhere people can drop into casually, whether that's for a quick pint in the afternoon or to spend the evening."

Ashley added: "The idea was to build a place with character, somewhere people feel comfortable coming back to. We wanted it to feel like it belongs in Macclesfield rather than something dropped in from outside.
"The look and feel leans into punk, post-punk and alternative influences, giving it more of a dive bar identity compared to more traditional venues locally."
Diversion Bar takes over the ground floor unit previously home to Savages Mussels.
A refurbishment took place ahead of the venue's soft launch on Wednesday, April 1.
It is now open Tuesday through Saturday from midday to 11pm, with additional openings on bank holiday Sundays and Treacle Market days.
The drinks offer includes draught beers, cocktails and a range of spirits.
Looking ahead, Ashley is planning to introduce a food offering centred around chicken wings.
He is also planning to host events such as open mic nights, themed evenings and collaborations with other local businesses.
