SciBar is science in a bar - an invited speaker gives a talk on a scientific topic while people enjoy a drink or meal, with a Q&A afterwards. Bollington SciBar takes place at the Cock and Pheasant in Bollington.

About the speaker: In September the speaker is Michael Carroll, Associate Professor in Reproductive Science, Manchester Metropolitan University. Michael's research interests include reproductive cell biology, andrology, investigating lifestyle and environment effects on human sperm, evolutionary biology and the history of science.

Talk synopsis: Animals have evolved many physical traits and strategies to survive long enough to reproduce.

The sexual organs of many species are some of the most varied, specialised, and bizarre, which have evolved to enable them to compete in the battle of the sexes.

This talk will describe some of these structures considering sexual selection and will culminate with some of the current theories posited for the evolution of the human penis.
