Big lacrosse tournament to take place in Macclesfield this weekend
The Olympics start this weekend. And while lacrosse won't be at this Olympics (but it will be at the next one), you can get in the sporting mood as a big lacrosse tournament is taking place in Macclesfield this weekend.
A free-to-spectate lacrosse tourney will be taking place at Macclesfield Rugby Club on Saturday morning.
From 10am, some of the best English and Dutch best lacrosse teams will compete in Macclesfield to try and win the Tasko Cup.
The Tasko Cup was founded in 2014 by Jamie Tasko and Peter Dunits 14 years after the pair of ex-pats from Canada co-founded England Box Lacrosse.
The aim of the tournament is to grow grassroots lacrosse, and last year it was held at the purpose-built lacrosse facility at Macclesfield Rugby Club.
Last year's event so well, that it is being held there again, with the sporting action starting from 10am on Saturday.
Andy Downing the founder of Northern Box Lacrosse and Head Coach at UKLacrosse Coaching adds, "The game has truly found a home at Macclesfield Rugby Club and we (the sport) would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone at the club for giving us a chance and looking after us."
"With the support from Chris and Keith Wainer at UKLacrosse the sport has been pushed to the next level with the new facility. Lacrosse is still a small sport here in the UK, but with the recent announcement of lacrosse being part of the LA2028 Olympics we are gearing up for a brighter future."
This year's tournament is even bigger as the Tasko Cup welcomes the Netherlands Women's box lacrosse team as they prepare for the first ever women's box lacrosse World Championships to be held in September in Utica, New York, USA.
If you have any questions about lacrosse or would like a free taster session at your Macclesfield school then please contact Andy and the team at [email protected].
