Bollington firefighters complete 35-mile walk raising almost £3000 for charity
Two Bollington firefighters have spent the Bank Holiday raising money for charity.
Tom Ladds and Jack Drogan completed the 35-mile Gritstone Trail, wearing 18kg of firefighter's kit on their backs, earlier today.
They started at 1:30am on Friday morning, and finished just before 8pm on Friday evening.
At the time of publication, the pair's herculean efforts has raised £2800 for The Fire Fighters Charity.
Macclesfield Nub News met with Jack and Tom at the finish in Disley, to find out more.
"We are feeling tired and sore, but we made it," said Tom.
"The first section walking on our own by the Canal in Kidsgrove was quite nice.
"We have had a fantastic support crew along the way, people have gone the extra mile for us. It would have been tougher without them.
"We have exceeded our donation target, so thanks to everyone who has donated.
"We've had all weathers, from thunder, lighting, hail, rain, wind and glorious sunshine."
Highlights on the trip included cheers at Tegg's Nose and a heroes welcome at White Nancy.
"Thank you for donating," added Jack.
"And we've had people feeding us, giving us drinks and supporting us throughout.
"My favourite part was finishing!
In total, they took 84000 steps each.
The kit is designed to be worn for 45 minutes, as opposed to seventeen-and-a-half hours.
Rain water added to the weight of the kit, and the shoulder straps were a particular source of pain.
But they pushed through and finished, with Jack in particular looking forward to a celebratory Chinese takeaway.
