The search is on for Macclesfield's next 'Rising Star'.

Sylk Dance Academy has announced it is hosting a virtual talent contest to find a young person with 'superstar quality'.

The winner will receive a trophy and a year's scholarship with the dance and gymnastics studio on Brook Street.

Principal Amy Myers said: "Over the past few years, we've witnessed many families struggle to keep up with their children's hobbies due to the ongoing financial climate.

"For some, even the cost of a weekly class is simply out of reach.

"The virtual competition will enable all members of the community to showcase their talent and have the opportunity to pursue further projects with Sylk."

Amy added: "At Sylk, we pride ourselves on offering incredible opportunities to our students — from going behind the scenes on Britain's Got Talent to performing at the Grand Prix!

"As principal of the studios, it's important to me that talented young people are given the chance to grow and showcase their abilities, regardless of their circumstances."

The Cheshire East Rising Star competition is open to children aged seven to 16.

Amy says they are looking to hear from those who don't already take classes or have tuition at an establishment outside of school but simply have a passion for performing.

Dancers of any style will be considered, whether that's showing off a dance you've learnt online or something you have choreographed yourself.

Cheerleaders and gymnasts can also enter.

How to enter:

  • Entrants should get an adult to help create a video showcasing their talent and telling us a little bit about themselves and why they would love a scholarship with Sylk.
  • Send your video to [email protected] with your child's name and age before 1st September and we will select some of our favourites to be shared on social media.
  • Videos should be no longer than 4 minutes long and we would expect them to be approx 2-3 minutes
  • A winner for the scholarship will be announced on 30th September
  • Note that by sending us your entry, you give us permission to share your video and have it judged by our panel. Only one entry per person is permitted.

Alongside the contest,  Sylk Dance Academy are looking to secure additional funding so they can offer more scholarship opportunities to young people in Cheshire East.

Amy is keen to hear from local businesses who could offer their support.
